The Pure Virtues Of Amir Al-Mu’minin (As) Should Be Understood From The Verses And Narrations

On Saturday night and during a speech in Dar al-Quran of Allameh Tabataba’i (ra), Ayatollah Sobhani emphasized on the necessity of understanding the different dimensions of the personality and services and blessings of Imam Ali (as) from the perspective of the verses and narrations. He said that to know Amir al-Mu’minin Imam Ali (as), sometimes we should refer to the verses of Quran, other times we should turn to the narrations of Ahl al-Bayt (as) and especially those of the prophet (PBUH) in his description.
Referring to the fact that after the Prophet (PBUH), Ali ibn Abi Talib (as) is considered to be the most prominent man in his time and all times in terms of worship and piety. Imam Ali (as) was the best servant in the field of worship of the Almighty God and in the field of courage in wars as well as in ethical, individual, family and social affairs etc. and as Amir al-Mu’minin (as) in all his life, he guided mankind to true lightness and prosperity.
Ayatollah Sobhani said that the study of Nahj al-Balagha is one of the best ways we can understand the eloquence and rhetoric of Amir al-Mu’minin (as) and at the same time, we understand the important moral, social, and devotional points he has gathered in this noble book.
He also emphasized on the necessity of recognizing figure of Imam Ali (as) from the point of view of the Holy Quran and said that Amir al-Mu’minin (as) is the first person to believe in the Prophet (PBUH). This, of course, does not mean that he was previously a disbeliever before the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), but he also behaved in accordance with the laws of the Prophet (PBUH) before Islam.
According to the verse called Mavaddat that is the 23rd verse of Sura of Shura, the reward of the prophecy is stated as loving the closed ones of the prophet. One of the most prominent examples of that is Amir al-Mu’minin (as) because loving him and following him is considered as the reward of the prophecy.
Ayatollah Sobhani Referred to the words of the late Allameh Tabataba’i describing the high status of Amir al-Mu’minin (as). He said that the late Allameh states that there are 11 thousand words and sermons of Imam Ali (as), but at the time of the Prophet (PBUH) and for the sake of politeness and modesty, he had not even spoken a single word that is itself a sign of his virtue.
